What should I look for when visiting a massage school?

Before you settle on any one massage therapy school for your education it is important to visit one in person. A massage school campus visit can tell you a lot about not only what is expected from you but also what you can expect from the school.

When visiting the campus of a school of massage therapy you should look to see if how the instructors lecture to their classes. For example, look for  instructors and the students being actively engaged in the learning process. Seeing a class in process is a great live indicator for how classes will be conducted should you attend the school. The more in-tune you see the instructor and the students with the material being presented, the better your chances are for having a positive educational experience at that location.

Be sure to look for the types of demonstrations being given to students. Also be sure to listen to the descriptions and instructions being given by the instructor giving such demonstrations. This will indicate to you how informative and easy to understand the instruction here is given when you are in attendance.

Observe the type, quality, condition, and age of the equipment being used to teach at a massage therapy school. You will want to avoid schools which have outdated equipment or equipment in disrepair. You are paying for your education as a massage therapist and you should be spending your money wisely on a quality massage school where you can have access to the best and most cutting edge equipment in the massage industry.

Look to see what type of resources are made available to students at any massage school campus.  It is wise to take note of anything provided from lockers, resource libraries to lounges. Since you will be spending so much time at a given campus these are important things to know before attending.

If the school you are visiting has a student-run massage spa or clinic, ask to tour it. You want to see what type of environment the students are working in. You will also benefit greatly from knowing what type of instruction students are given during this phase of their education. In any reputable massage school spa or clinic instructors will shadow the students to oversee their work and assist them if needed.
