What are my options for massage school loans or financial aid?

I have been attending massage school in Florida for almost seven months. I applied for federal loans to pay for my school in Florida and had no problem getting approved. I have family that has moved to a different state that has a massage therapy school my aunt went to and highly recommends. I'd like to move to this state for the affordability and the different school. If I change massage schools will I be able to transfer my massage school loans to the new massage school in Nevada from the Florida massage school?

I have looked into transferring the hours I have already completed and I have been told that the hours I have done will mostly transfer but there may be some that won't. I'm halfway there, now what should I do to find out if I can get new loans or transfer my existing school loans?

ANSWER:

There is no need to worry about transferring your massage school loans. When you received your loans they lost the actual connections to your Florida massage school. If you have money left over you can use that to pay for some of your classes at the new massage school you will be attending in Nevada. What will stay the same about your school loans is that you will always pay the same bank you received them from unless it is bought or transferred. Make sure you pay on time!

The next thing you need to make sure you find out is that if the massage school in Nevada you will be attended has been accredited by one of the massage school accreditation agencies. You can find a list of the different agencies that offer accrediation to massage schools here. If you want to learn more about who accredits massage schools you should take a look through this article as well which also covers regulation.

Once you've verified that your new school has accrediation you can start applying for new loans and looking at alternative methods for massage school financial aid.

If you want to start with more federal loans for your massage school financial aid options then you should start with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) website. The application doesn't cost anything to complete and it will also verify again if your new massage school is covered by the federal government. When you get to the FAFSA website look for the link that says, Find a School and make sure your school is listed.

It really is a one-stop shop for figuring out some financial aid options for massage school at FAFSA because you will also find out if you're elgible for federal grants, work-study programs and other federally funded projects to help citizens get an education.

The are many options for alternative loans when you're attending massage therapy school but you will want to do everything you can to get your school fees covered by Federal loans. Massage therapy alternative loan options are much more expensive on the interest rate you will receive.
